ARTIST STATEMENT AND BIO
ARTIST STATEMENT
My drawing developed into spontaneous and regular activity when holidaying with grandparents.. Following that, training in my teens, embedded the benefit of regular working and by then, my devotion was so well established that it led me to study drawing, as it would surely mean that I could be doing it every day.
'Liathach’, this work (above) portrays grandeur, scale, physicality, a remnant of past geological action. 'The Mountains of Assynt' (below) is a silhouetted giant, with Cul Mor and other peaks, grand and impressive, its mood is in its russet, blue and blue grey colours. Look out for the monumental quality of "Watermill' and work around the many remnant ancient trees in an old oak wood in my locality.
The late Roger Deakin, believed that "we carry places and landscapes in our head, that live on in us, wherever we may be, and however far we may be from them" and I believe this is true.
Definition can include awareness of spatial and tonal and abstract qualities to express the essence of a subject and if you can think of watercolour as a kind of drawing with water or water drawing and that is where you will find me.

YOUR VISIT
I am sure you share the inspiration I find in the physical environment and the importance that time, place and memory play in its appeal. During 2024 I have been working in watercolour out of doors and studying subject matter by drawing in and out of the studio. Ahead I will be developing some work that explores bonds that form and thread through our lives; that navigate both family and professional lives. It is a slow burn project as 'the Joy of Reunion'.
