ARTIST STATEMENT AND BIO

ARTIST STATEMENT

My drawing developed into spontaneous and regular activity when summer holidaying with grandparents.. Following that, training in my teens, embedded the benefit of regular working and by then, my devotion was so well established that it led me to study drawing, as it would surely mean that I could be doing it every day!

'Liathach’, (above) portrays grandeur, scale, physicality, a remnant of past geological action. 'The Mountains of Assynt' (below) is a silhouetted giant, with Cul Mor and other peaks, grand and impressive, its mood is in its russet, blue and blue grey colours.

You will see a detailed representation of 'Watermill' and compare it to an abstracted landform, 'Beckoning,' a manifestation of the need to go back home or somewhere.

BIO

I live and work in the Lothians near Edinburgh, Scotland. I am a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, University of Edinburgh, and was awarded a summer scholarship to Yale, USA.  In addition to my art practice, I have also worked in contextual studies at Gray's School of Art, Robert Gordon's University, Aberdeen, taught Art & Design for City & Guilds, Aberdeen College, and led workshops and given demonstrations to community groups and in schools. I exhibit work through a variety of openings and opportunities.

In the last two years I have been painting or drawing out of doors, 'en plein air', which has been refreshing. I painted and drew, intentionally in separate works and will put some of this on this website soon. Ahead I will be exploring an idea I had many years ago about the way lives can weave in and out of each other's, in terms of their nature and in time. I call this the 'Joy of Reunion'. (2026)
